Breaks Interstate Park, created in 1954 by joint action of the Kentucky and Virgina legislatures, encompasses 4,500 acres of green woodlands and sky-scraping mountain scenery.Discover and explore the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi, the lofty Towers, other intriguing rock formations, caves, balanced rocks and hidden springs. Examine and enjoy the wide variety of plant life which abounds from the canyon floor to the rim. Hike to some of the exciting spots on well-marked foot trails, then satisfy the adventurer in you by exploring others on your own.
Outdoor recreation abounds in the Park. Swim, sun, camp and picnic Memorial Day through Labor Day. Our Restaurant, Gift Shop, Lodge Units, Visitor's Center, Museum and Conference Center are open April 1 until December 21 each season
